Semester Two

Week 1

Monday, January 9th, 2017
On Monday we talked about using a new way tom make our websites. It was also our first day back from winter break. It was a really fun break and I did a few things. Instead of using HTML, we learned about using Google Sites. I still prefer using the HTML instead of Google Sites. We also learned about the new Robotics Competition. Click the link below to learn more.

First Steamworks Robotics Competiton Video

Tuesday, January 10th, 2017
On Tuesday we started to learn how to use Google sites. We learned how to make, name, and put a background picture on the new websites. It seems easier, but I really like using HTML.

Wednesday, January 11th, 2017
On Wednesday we did a Wednesday Challenge. Our goal was to make a square exctly one foot by one foot with apiece of cardboard and a box cutter. We did this challenge in pairs and my partner was Jaden. We used the carpenter square to measure the sides of our square and to get that perfect 90 degree angle. We have not found out the winner of the challenge yet.

One by One Cardboard Square Wednesday Challenge Form

Thursday, January 12th, 2017
On Thursday we continued with Google Sites. We took a picture with our square and we learned how to put it in to our Google Website.

Friday, January 13th, 2017
On Friday we worked more with Google Sites. We didn't do much besides that.

Week 2

Tuesday, January 17th, 2017
On Tuesday we had to make a choice whether or not we would use HTML or Google Sites. I chose HTML because that's what I'm used to and that's what I feel is easier.

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017
On Wednesday we did a Wednesday Challenge. We played with ebola. The goal was to build a device to transfer a golf from one bag to the next. The golf ball was the ebola. We did not do to well in the competiton. We took 4 minutes and did not get one ball. Mason, Raul, and Jonathan were in my group.

Ebola Wednesday Challenge

Thursday, January 19th, 2017
Today we learned how to make a homepage on our website. On our homepage are two links, one to semester one and the other to semester two.

Friday, January 20th, 2017
We learned how to upload our semester two files on to FileZilla.

Week 3

Monday, January 23rd, 2017
On Monday, we found out our grades for the website. I got a 10.0 on the website and so did several other people. We were graded on several things. The people who got recognized for there websites were John, Jess, Derek, Alvin, and Sam. After this, Dr. Neat showed us how to cut a perfect sqaure out of cardboard.

Tuesday, January 24th, 2017
On Tuesday Dr. Neat introduced a project we were going to do. We have to make a car out of cardboard, straws, and wood glue. The goal is to make your car go the farthest. Which ever car goes the farthest wins. It has nothing to do with speed. We had the option to start the project today, but I wanted to work on my website a little more.

Cardboard Car Requirements

Wednesday, January 25th, 2017
On Wednesday we did a Wednesday Challenge. Every year at the Robotics Competition, teams give out pins, little toys, etc. to support their team during the competition. The goal was to come up with an object for the CVHS team. My groups idea was to build a gear keychain. We still have not found out the winning object. Jonathan and Mason were in my group. We had to present the ideas to the Veterans in the class.

Thursday, January 26th, 2017
On Thursday we finished presenting the ideas. I worked on my website and not much else happened.

Handout Competition Ideas Wednesday Challenge

Friday, January 27th, 2017
On Friday we found out the winners of the Wednesday Challenge. Two groups won, one for the actuall handout and the other for best presentation. The group that won for yhe handouts was Connor's group. Their idea was to build those twirly things that fly away when you twirl them. The group that won best presentation was Krish's group. Their idea was to build a gear fidget spinner. After that the CVHS Robotics team showed us where they are at with their ideas for the competition. They have a full CAD of their robot and it looks pretty good. After that I worked on my website.

Week 4

Monday, January 30th, 2017
On Monday Dr. Neat showed us the website requirments for the next grading period. Mr. Miller talked to us about resource managment. After that I worked on my website, we didn't do much on Monday.

Tuesday, January 31st, 2017
On Tuesday we had the option to work on websites or our cars. I worked on my website.

Wednesday, February 1st, 2017
On Wednesday we did a Wednesday Challenge. The challenge was to build our own version of the winning handout last week and the winning won gets to go to the competition. Mason, Evan, and Tyler were in my group. We do not know the winner yet.

Handout Competition Ideas Wednesday Challenge: Part 2

Thursday, February 2nd, 2017
On Thursday we worked on our cars. I built the body and I'm going to start the wheels on Friday.

Friday, February 3rd, 2017
On Friday we worked on our cars. I built the first set of 4 wheels.

Superbowl LI Sunday
Patriots won!!!! 34-28 in over time.

Week 5

Monday, February 6th, 2017
On Monday we worked on our cars. I built the second set of wheels.

Tuesday, February 7th, 2017
On Tuesday we worked on our cars. I found out that the wheels were too jagged and they would not roll well. So I took my car home and perfected the wheels. Hopefully they work better.

Wednesday, February 8th, 2017
On Wednesday we did a Wednesday Challenge. We recently found out that the last hanout idea, the twirly flyer, was an illegal handout because there were no flying objects allowed. The challenge was to make a fidget toy for the handout. The fidget toy my group game up with were clacker kind of things. It was two golf balls attached to a single piece of string. Justin andd Max were in my group.

Fidget Toy Wednesday Challenge

Thursday, February 9th, 2017
On Thursday we did the first race with our cars. The first time I waited in line, I found out the axle, the straws, were too long. So I had to cut the straws a little bit. My car went about 7 feet down the ramp and that is not what I was hoping for. My car was turning right. I wanted it to go down further. Next time I should position my car more to the left of the ramp so that it will have a longer time before it falls off the ramp.

Friday, February 10th, 2017
Friday was the second day of the race. I positioned the car on the ramp a little differently this time and I ended up getting about 8 feet. I was a little more satisfied by that performance then the last one. I need to make my wheels thicker and curve my wheels better.

Week 6

Monday, February 13th, 2017
No School

Tuesday, February 14th, 2017
On Tuesday we found out our first quarter grades. They were calculated by the average of our first website grade and second website grade. I got a 10 on my first grade and on my second I got a 7 because I forgot to upload it on to FileZilla. I got an average of 8.5 so that is my first quarter grade. The rest of the period we worked on our websites.

Wednesday, February 15th, 2017
On Wednesday we did a Wednesday Challenge. The groups were determined by splitting the class in half. The groups had to sit in a circle with each person holding a tube in their hand. So evryone had to pass the tube one person to the left. If everyone caught it, we would do it again, but standing. If we all did it standing, then we had to throw it every other person. The first group to do it all three in a row wins. My group was the first group to do it, so we won. I was in Tyler's group.

Tube Toss Wednesday Challenge

Thursday, February 16th, 2017
On Thursday we worked on our websites.

Friday, February 17th, 2017
On Friday, the CVHS Robotics Team had their final Friday presentation of the year. They showed us their robot and it looks really good and moves pretty fast. We also did the third race of the car competition. It did not go well at all. It did not even move. The straw was not fitting in the hole it was supposed to fit into, so that axle did not spin. It was really frustrating.

Wednesday, March 29th, 2017
On Wednesday we did a Wednesday Challenge. The challenge was to make a decision in 30 min. Here's the scenario: You can take your math class for a whole school year and get what ever grade you earn, or if you write out the numbers from one all the way to one million, you automatically get an A. By the end of the thirty minutes, we figured out that we would have to write 69 words per minute. Our group decided it would be better to write the words out. Each group prsented their decisions and why they made that decision. Krish, Andrew, and Derek were in my group.

1,000,000 Wednesday Challenge

Thursday, March 30th, 2017
We finished the rest of the presentations at the beginning of the period, then we worked on our websites.
